Three Mortar Shells Found on Norfolk Beach

Three mortar shells were discovered near sand dunes on Winterton beach in Norfolk over the scorching bank holiday weekend.  Members of the public found the items prompting first the Police and then the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to arrive.

It is unclear whether the EOD team carried out a controlled explosion or were able to safely remove the shells.

The coast at Winterton was heavily-defended during World War Two and was also the site of air-to-sea, air-to-ground, and practice bombing ranges.
