Unexploded Mortar Found at Bannockburn House

An unexploded mortar was found during the clearing of outbuildings at the historic Bannockburn House in Stirling.  The heavily-rusted device was assessed by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, who removed it to a nearby field before undertaking a controlled explosion.

The House is famous for hosting Bonnie Prince Charlie the night before the fateful Battle of Culloden in 1746, the last pitched battle on British soil.
