An unexploded mortar from WWII has been destroyed in a controlled explosion after being discovered in a field near the railway line at Brockhill Village near Worcester.
The area is in close proximity to the former Norton Barracks, which housed a variety of regiments between opening in 1874 and their closure in 1979. The US Army also had units at the barracks in the immediate post-WWII period.
It is likely that the find relates to training activities associated with the former barracks, the field being located next to the historic rifle range.
