A controlled explosion was undertaken on Blackpool Beach after a suspected mortar was found by a metal detectorist. Part of the beach was closed by Police as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised.
One emergency official thought the device may have been a fishing weight, though the necessity of a controlled explosion suggests otherwise.
