Unexploded Shell Found in Bristol Garden

A unexploded WWII shell was found in a garden in Sneyd Park, northwest Bristol. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised and removed the shell to an open area on Durdham Downs to carry out a controlled explosion.

Bristol was a major marshalling and embarkation point for Allied troops prior to D-Day and several US Army units were stationed in the city. The shell has been described as a two-pounder High Explosive (HE) shell and the controlled explosion left a three foot crater that was subsequently infilled.
