Unexploded Shell Found Near Bombing Range

An Unexploded shell has been found on farmland near the former Wainfleet Air Weapons Range on the Lincolnshire coast.

In use from 1938 until 2010, the range at Wainfleet has for some time been a potential source of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) hazard to the surrounding area, with the inevitable ‘overspill’ of air-dropped munitions during more than half-a-century of bombing and gunnery practice.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in to safely dispose of the device which, given its remote location, did not require any evacuation of nearby properties.
