An unexploded shell has been destroyed in a controlled explosion after a local resident found the item and brought it back to their property in the village of Aldbury, Hertfordshire.
A 100m evacuation cordon was put in place whilst an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team came and assessed the nature of the shell. It was subsequently moved to a nearby field where it was destroyed.
The precautions taken are a reminder than any suspicious items discovered should be left in situ and the authorities informed to ensure that no harm is caused to the public.
