UXO Dug Up at Property Near St Ives

Capture-1-300x222A live shell or mortar round was excavated by a resident at their property in Lelant near St Ives in Cornwall.  The item was moved to a nearby field by a Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team prior to its removal or destruction.

Areas of the Cornish coast are known to have been used by the British Army for training purposes during WWII, and such items are often found on local beaches or pathways, although perhaps less regularly in gardens.
