UXO Finds by Public at West Sussex Beauty Spots

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams have been called out twice to West Sussex beauty spots in recent days after members of the public found suspected Unexploded Ordnance (UXO).

After a suspected mortar was destroyed in a controlled explosion at Devil’s Dyke, another suspect item was found in woodland at Kingley Vale National Nature Reserve.

Both areas have extensive histories of military use. Devil’s Dyke was used during World War One (WWI) as a munitions testing area and formed part of the South Downs Training Area during World War Two (WWII). Kingley Vale was used for live firing exercises during WWII by British and Canadian troops and has a history of UXO finds.
