UXO Found Washed Up at Fairlight Cove, Hastings

An item of WWII Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) was found washed up at Fairlight Cove near Hastings in East Sussex. After being advised of the find by the Coastguard, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team arrived on site.

By the time the EOD team arrived the UXO had been covered by high tide and it was disposed of the following morning in a controlled explosion.

There are many potential sources of UXO hazard in the marine environment along the southeast coast, which was the location of heavy bombing raids, artillery practice, aircraft crashes and naval wrecks during both WWI and WWII.
