A suspected wartime device was found near Sandwich Road in Cliffsend, resulting in a controlled explosion being undertaken by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
Local residents heard the detonation, with some suggesting a similar event had taken place last week.
The type of device destroyed has not been reported, although it is common for shells of various size and age to wash up along the Kentish coast, which was the aerial battleground for the early exchanges between the RAF and the Luftwaffe during WWII.
