Wiltshire Desk Study

This week we have been researching a site in Wiltshire which was  requisitioned during World War Two (WWII) for military training involving British, American and Canadian troops stationed at a nearby barracks.

Zetica’s archival research revealed plans of the WWII-era barracks and camp built to accommodate troops and store equipment. Historical aerial photography helped us to identify the location of stored munitions (orange) as well as evidence of munitions disposal (red).

Records indicated that training exercises involving infantry and artillery units were conducted on the site (yellow).

As a result of our research we were able to zone areas of significant UXO hazard on the site and devise a risk mitigation strategy to ensure that works can proceed safely and on time.
