World War One Artillery Shell Dredged Up in Newark Marina

A controlled explosion was carried out after a World War One artillery shell was dredged up in Newark Marina in Nottinghamshire. A new entrance to the river was being created when the suspected 18-pounder shell was found.

After Police were called in, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised to inspect the shell. It was deemed safe to relocate to a nearby park, where Police put in place a security cordon prior to the shell’s safe detonation.
