A live 16lb World War One (WWI) bomb was found during works at the Royal Air Force (RAF) College in Cranwell, Lincolnshire. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from RAF Wittering came and carried out a controlled explosion.
Prior to becoming the RAF College, Cranwell was used as a Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) airfield during WWI. It was not uncommon for the landing areas at WWI airfields to be used for practice bombing, with dedicated bombing ranges in more remote areas only becoming widespread during World War Two (WWII).
