A 2-inch smoke mortar from World War Two (WWII) was found by a walker in a park near Knettishall, Suffolk. The Police mobilised an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team which arrived to remove the device for safe disposal.
Knettishall was the location of a WWII airfield operated by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). It has since been returned to agriculture, with little significant redevelopment having occurred. Such finds in its vicinity are therefore not surprising.
