WWII Mortar Found on Aberdeenshire Beach

A suspected 2-inch mortar shell dating from World War Two (WWII) was found on the beach at Collieston in Aberdeenshire.  The device was destroyed in a controlled explosion by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of the Royal Logistics Corps.

There were several military training areas and firing ranges along the northeast coast of Scotland during WWII, with ordnance regularly washed up on the region’s beaches.
