WWII Practice Bomb Found Along Yorkshire Roadside

A suspected 28lb practice bomb dating from WWII was found during ditch clearing work along a road near Ganstead, East Riding. The discovery of the device halted work whilst an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised to deal with it.

There were numerous bombing ranges in East Yorkshire during WWII, used by both British and American airmen, most of which were concentrated along the coast between Kilnsea and Skipsea. The discovery of this item some distance inland, therefore, raises questions as to its origin given that there were no ranges in the immediate vicinity.
