WWII Practice Grenade Found on Harwich Beach

A WWII practice grenade was washed up on Dovercourt Beach near Harwich on the weekend, prompting a 100m evacuation cordon to be established.  Unsure as to the nature and condition of the device, the Police called in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Portsmouth.

The EOD team confirmed that the grenade was a training device and removed it for disposal. Given the regularity with which UXO is washed ashore around Harwich, the authorities wisely decided not to take any chances and enacted the appropriate protocols to deal with the grenade safely and efficiently.
