WWII Shell Found on Mumbles Hill

An unexploded WWII shell was found in woodland on Mumbles Hill near Swansea after a trio of kids stumbled upon the item.

The area was heavily-defended during WWII, when it protected the strategic approaches to Swansea with a series of Heavy Anti-Aircraft (HAA) and coastal gun batteries.  Military training also took place in the surrounding woodland and on nearby beaches.

The youngsters were savvy enough to call the Police on discovering the shell, with an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team subsequently summoned to remove the offending item.
