Yet another unexploded device was found on Nairn Beach in the Scottish Highlands, after being dug up by an inquisitive dog. The dog walker informed the Coastguard who referred matters to the Police.
The device – a suspected 2″ Canadian mortar – was destroyed in a controlled explosion by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
Extensive live military training occurred in the area in the build-up to D-Day, centred on Culbin Sands. Such finds are common in the locality, with more than a dozen reported in the past year.
