A member of the local Mountain Rescue Team discovered what appeared to be an unexploded shell on moorland around Derwent Edge in the Peak District.
Police mobilised an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to the area to investigate the item. The EOD assessed that the item was likely an inert 17lb smoke shell and removed it for safe disposal.
Large parts of the Peak District were used for military training during World War One (WWI) and World War Two (WWII) and such finds are fairly common.
