Anti-Aircraft Shell Found in Cramlington

A controlled explosion was carried out after a suspected 4.5″ Anti-Aircraft (AA) shell was found at a property in Cramlington, Northumberland.

A member of the public informed Police, who mobilised an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team. The EOD team moved the shell to a remote location for safe disposal.

AA shells were fired in their thousands during World War One (WWI) and World War Two (WWII) as a defensive measure against German aerial attacks. They are found regularly across the UK.
