A controlled explosion was carried out after a 2″ mortar was found by a walker near Penhill in Wensleydale. The device appeared to have been dug up by a rabbit, being located near to a burrow.
Police cordoned off a nearby road until an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team arrived to render the item safe.
