Controlled Explosion for Mortar Found in Nottinghamshire Parkland

A controlled explosion was carried out after the discovery of a 2-inch mortar at Thoresby Park near Newark in Nottinghamshire. The mortar had been found by a family during a picnic but they had not been able to identify its nature.

The device was later found by members of the estate and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised to make it safe. Thoresby Park was used as an army camp during WWII and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) finds occur periodically on its land.
