Controlled Explosion for Ordnance Found Near Knaresborough

A controlled explosion was carried out after the discovery of a suspected World War One munition in the River Nidd near Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.

The device was inadvertently taken home by a resident doing a litter pick in the area. After they realised that the item may be an explosive they called the Police, who mobilised an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

The EOD team rendered the device safe in a controlled explosion on nearby farmland.
