Controlled Explosion for Suspected Naval Shell Found at Sand Bay

A controlled explosion was carried out after a suspected 5-pound naval shell was found on the beach by a dog walker at Sand Bay near Weston-super-Mare in Somerset.

After the Coastguard put in place a security cordon around the suspicious object, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised.  The EOD team destroyed the shell in situ via controlled detonation.
