Discovery of Training Shells Forces Road Closure in Gosport

Road closures caused disruption in Gosport after the discovery of suspected Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) on the aptly-named Military Road.  Police officers put in place a security cordon prior to an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attending.

The EOD team confirmed that the suspected UXO were empty World War Two-era shells, which had been discovered at HMS Sultan, a shore training establishment for the Royal Naval School of Marine Engineering (RNSME).  The empty shells – suspected to have been used in training exercises – were removed and the cordon lifted.
