Practice Bomb Found Near East Yorkshire Beach

On Sunday 21st January, Humberside Police attended reports of an unexploded bomb discovered at Mappleton Beach, near Hornsea. The device was confirmed as an inert dummy bomb, used by the military in training exercises, and removed by an Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

The former RAF Cowden, 2 miles south of Mappleton, was in use as a bombing range by the RAF between 1959 and 1998. Coastal erosion has led to discoveries of several devices in the last two decades, both live and inert.
