0 Image 2023 03 09t134207433Police were called after walkers in woodland near Ellesmere Port found a German incendiary bomb (IB). Hundreds of thousands of the 1kg devices were dropped during World War Two (WWII). They were designed to start large fires that would cause damage, whilst also lighting up a target area. Subsequent bombers could then drop their high explosive (HE) bombs with greater accuracy.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called to the scene to render the item safe in a controlled explosion/
