A fireworks display in Suffolk was cancelled after three suspected unexploded mortar bombs were discovered. The event was due to be held at Melford Hall, a National Trust property near Sudbury.
Like many stately homes in East Anglia, Melford Hall was requisitioned for military use during World War Two. Various battalions were housed in the hall and Nissen huts within its grounds prior to the D-Day landings in Normandy.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised to assess the mortars and they were removed for safe disposal.
