The discovery of three unexploded mortar shells at a waste management site in Chesterfield prompted road and rail closures. The suspected mortars were found in a skip and prompted Police to put in place a security cordon.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in to deal with the items.
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for ordnance to be disposed of through waste and recycling streams and this incident is a reminder of how disruptive such actions are.
