A large section of the seafront at Southend was closed after the discovery of suspected Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) on the beach.
The item was found off Western Esplanade and the Police put in place a security cordon prior to the attendance of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
UXO is regularly found on this stretch of coastline, with the historical firing ranges at Shoeburyness and World War Two bombing and Anti-Aircraft (AA) fire all contributing ordnance to the marine environment. Storms periodically wash up or expose UXO on the beach.
