Two items of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) were found within 24 hours on Merseyside, prompting the attendance of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
The first item was a WWII-era mortar, which was discovered at a recycling centre in West Kirby. The mortar was moved to a nearby beach and destroyed in a controlled explosion.
A second item (type unspecified) was found at Bramley Moore Dock, proposed site of Everton FC’s new stadium. This device was also moved to a nearby beach (at Crosby) and safely detonated.
