On Thursday 11th April, Wyke Coastguard and Dorset Police were alerted to reports of a suspected ‘unexploded device’ on Weymouth Beach in West Dorset.
A cordon was established by officers at the pavilion end of the beach, but the device was afterwards covered by the rising tide.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD) attended the scene and were later able to recover the device, which was confirmed as a spent WWII-era tank shell.
